Taytay Councilor Tobit Cruz met with farmers from his town who fear losing the land they are using for their crops, and vowed to address their concerns.
Cruz said he took the opportunity to explain to them Taytay’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which states how a particular area or piece of land can be used.
He also said only 2.1 percent of Taytay is used for agricultural, and this grows smaller every year. But he will take action to change this, he said.
“We will be working on expanding our agricultural areas, lalo na ang mga malapit sa lawa,” he said.
He would meet with the Department of Agrarian Reform and Akbayan to ask for help in addressing this matter, he added.
In the meantime, he also said he would pursue urban gardening projects so that farmers would have more land to use.
