Batangas Gov. Dodo Mandanas holds meeting to address sugarcane planters’ concerns

Batangas Gov. Dodo Mandanas called stakeholders to a meeting to find solutions to the problems of the province’s sugarcane planters.

The Central Azucarera Don Pedro, Inc., one of the largest sugar mills in the country, announced that it would halt operations for the crop years 2022-2023.

Because of this, sugarcane planters feared for what would happen to their crops.

Mandanas hosted the meeting to address their concerns and to lay down the provincial government’s plans for them.

According to him, the sugarcane that could not be handled by the Universal Robina Corporation Sugar Mill in Balayan would be brought to the Central Azucarera de Tarlac for processing.

The national government would shoulder the transportation expenses so as not to burden the sugarcane planters with additional expenses, he said.

He also assured the sugarcane planters that he continues to coordinate with the President to find a long-term solution to the problem.
