The Quezon provincial government has placed General Nakar and the Polillo Group of Islands under a state of calamity due to super typhoon Karding.
The Polillo Group of Islands consists of the towns of Polillo, Patnanungan, Panukulan, Burdeos, and Jomalig.
The provincial council approved the resolution declaring a state of calamity during a special session.
Quezon Gov. Helen Tan requested the state of calamity declaration.
This would allow Tan to use the quick response funds to help the devastated areas.
Quezon Provincial Agriculturist Lisa Mariano said damage to crops was estimated to be P186 million, and 16,000 fisherfolk and farmers were affected.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office cheif Mel Avenilla reported one death due to the super typhoon.
Avenilla also said the Polillo Islands and Barangay Umiray in General Nakar don’t have electricity.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office chief Sonia Leyson said 5,000 houses were damaged.
