House panel OKs bill declaring April 4 holiday in Antipolo City

By Billy Begas

The House Committee on Local Government chaired by Valenzuela Rep. Rex Gatchalian has approved the proposal declaring April 4 of every year as a special non-working holiday in Antipolo City.

The declaration of the holiday is in line with the commemoration of the cityhood anniversary of Antipolo, House Bill 3961 said.

The measure was filed by Antipolo City Rep. Robbie Puno.

Antipolo was converted into a component city of Rizal province through Republic Act 8508 enacted on February 13, 1998. The conversion was ratified by the voters on April 4, 1998, the bill reads.

Classified as a first-class component city based on income, the bill said Antipolo has been officially designated as the capital of Rizal province.
