Tagaytay Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino has called for prayers for track and field legend Lydia De Vega-Mercado, who is battling breast cancer and has been confined in a hospital.
Tolentino said he and the Philippine Olympic Committee were saddened by the news of her condition.
De Vega is a Philippine treasure, he said.
He, his POC family, and his family are hoping and praying that De Vega will win this battle against her disease, the same way she won great races in her prime, he said.
The POC donated P100,000 for De Vega’s hospital expenses, while Tolentino provided another P100,000 as his personal donation.
