Batangas honors homegrown sculptor
The Batangas provincial government has honored sculptor Teofilo Catanyag for his contribution to enriching the art and culture of the province.
Catanyag, who hails from Alitagtag, received a Certificate of Recognition from Batangas Gov. Dodo Mandanas.
“Personal na iniabot ni Governor DoDo Mandanas ang pagkilala kay Catanyag na responsible sa mga kanyang mga likhang life-sized sculptures, na tumatalima sa Limang Diwang Batangueño na Katapangan, Kagitingan, Katalinuhan, Kagandahan at Kasipagan, na naipakita sa Museo ng Batangas noong Oktubre 2020 hanggang Mayo 2022,” the Batangas public information office said.
One of Catanyag’s works, a relief mural called “Maniago Revolt, 1660,” is installed at the National Historical Institute in Ermita, Manila.
He has also participated in art exhibitions in Metro Manila.
Catanyag has also written books on the art and culture of Alitagtag.
