Pakil Mayor Vince Soriano learns about plight of sea turtles, joins calls to protect the ocean

Pakil Mayor Vince Soriano has a new appreciation for sea turtles, which intensified his desire to save the ocean.
Soriano has joined calls urging the public to stop throwing trash into the sea in order to protect marine life.
He made the call after joining a lecture about sea turtles.
In a Facebook post, he said he has learned that the common green sea turtles experience geomagnetic imprinting for the place where they were hatched.
After 30 years, female sea turtles return to the place where they were born to hatch their eggs.
Sea turtles are now an endangered specie in the Philippines because of pollution.
Now is the time to save them!

Bilang pakiki-isa po sa pagdiriwang natin ng World Ocean Day, dumalo po tayo at nakinig sa isang maikling IEC Lecture ukol sa mga Sea Turtles kangina lamang.
Makikita po sa larawan sa ibaba ang mga pinakawalang mga Common Green Sea Turtles hatchlings. Sa pagpapakawala po sa kanila, sumasailalim agad sila sa tinatawag na geomagnetic imprinting ng lugar kung saan sila ipinanganak. Matapos ang 30 taon at ang mga babaeng sea turtles ay mangingitlog na, dito rin sila babalik para gawin ito.
Sa ngayon, ang mga sea turtles, lalo na dito sa Pilipinas ay itinuturing na Endangered Species. Isa sa mga pangunahing dahilan nito ay ang polusyon. Kaya naman po, idagdag na ninyo ang aking maliit na boses sa panawagang tumulong ang lahat ng Filipino na huwag gawing basurahan ang ating mga karagatan.
