Cainta Councilor Edwin Cruz shares what public service means to him

Apr 16, 2022 @ 9:17

For Cainta Councilor Edwin Cruz, being a public official is more than just a job.

Cruz, who is running for a third term, shared his reflections about his position on Facebook.

He said being a public official entails sacrifice.

It is not a job that he sought for its perks or to enrich himself. Rather, he took it to serve Cainta and its people.

He said he has done some introspection about his qualities as a candidate and he can assure people that he has a noble purpose, which is to help them in the best way he knows how.

He believes he can do more for them if he would get another term.

All he wants is to offer his talent and expertise to serve them, he said.

He would give his best so that he could leave behind a meaningful legacy!

“Woke up early today to condition myself for a long day of campaign sorties. Arrived early at our designated contact point and while waiting I decided to compose this for a conscience check.

First, why am I still running for an elected post? What is it that I have to get the peoples support? I was already elected twice and this is my 3rd and God willing I can make it through again

. Second, having spent almost 7 years in public office, was I able to meet the peoples expectations? Many aspired for the position I am aspiring for but in the end only few are chosen.

Now lets take a closer look of what PUBLIC SERVICE is all about?

For me Public Service is SACRIFICE… servanthood so to speak. This is not some kind of plum position that provided lucrative income for me and my family.. again you have to give not to get and that is service to the people. In my own understanding, this is not some kind of business dealings that winning it ensures financial success (I still remain what I was before entering this position until today eh

). Getting a popular vote does not guarantee me to amass fortune and secure future  financial stability (my SALN hardly made a change in the last 7 years ehehehe

). This is beyond income generation. This entails the noble purpose of servitude for the love of Cainta and Cainteños. I did a thorough introspection of myself if I have the right quaLities and attitide of a good public servant? What makes me different from other aspirants? Why would the voting population pick me and place their confidence in me in this coming election? Do I  have the vision to help upgrade the quality of living of my kababayan Cainteños? Do I have the wisdom and intellect to interpret the call of the times? Do I have the bravery to act on these calls? There are plenty of questions I am asking myself. I am here with a noble purpose to help the Cainteños in the best way I know how. Today I am merely seeking another term because I believe that there are still more I can offer to my kababayans. It is not the fame nor title I am after but the desire to serve the people I learned to love and considered my family. I will be there to serve and not be served and that is my commitment.

I will give it my all… my talent, time, expertise and experience to ensure that you, my kababayans will get what you deserve and give back to you your expectations… hindi habang panahon ay nasa position ako ang tanging nais ko lamang na sa paglipas ng panahon ako na napagkatiwalaan nyo ay alam ko sa puso ko na may nagawa ako para sa inyo

. Something meaningful that I can leave behind.

I am willing to sacrifice my personal agenda and suspend personal pursuits for the duration of my term as a public servant. This requires selflessness and unquestionable love for you my kababayans.

Vox Populi, Vox Dei.
