Los Baños LGU observes rabies awareness month, calls for responsible pet ownership
The local government of Los Baños is putting in much effort to observe rabies awareness month this year.
Los Baños Mayor Antonio Kalaw kicked off the activities, which had the theme “Rabies-free na pusa’t aso, kaligtasan ng pamilyang Pilipino.”
It began with a motorcade with a dog mascot.
The activity was well-received and underscored to the public the importance of being responsible pet owners while promoting awareness of the dangers of rabies, the local government said.
Kalaw called on Los Baños residents to practice responsible pet ownership and to abide by ordinances for pet protection.
The other activities for rabies awareness month are an online spoken word poetry contest on March 10 and an online jingle contest on March 25.
In April, there would be a free spay and castration activity and pre-registration will be required, it said.
Municipal Agriculturist Cheryll Gonzales reminded pet owners to register their pets and make sure they are up to date with their vaccinations.
She also urged them to take care of their pets, and to adopt stray animals if they could.
“Huwag ding hayaang nakaalpas o pagala-gala ang mga alagang hayop sa pampublikong lugar. Hinihikayat din niya ang mga responsableng pet owner na mag-ampon ng mga stray dogs na kanilang nahuhuli sa pamamagitan ng kanilang programang ‘Adopt not Shop,’” it said.
