Santa Rosa Mayor Arnel Gomez shared some tidbits about how this organ works.

In a Facebook post, Gomez said it is capable of so many amazing feats.

One of this is to beat on its own. It does not need a brain or a body to keep beating, he said.

The heart has its own electrical system that makes it beat and pump blood, he said.

This is why it could continue to beat for a short time after a person is brain dead or even after the heart has been removed from the body, he said.

As long as it has oxygen, it will keep on beating, he added.

No wonder some people say the heart seems to have a mind of its own!
