Cabuyao Mayor Mel Gecolea is avid supporter of Cafe de Cabuyao
Cabuyao Mayor Mel Gecolea is one of the biggest supporters of the city’s own product, the Cafe de Cabuyao.
In a Facebook post, Gecolea said he is proud of this coffee grown by Cabuyao’s farmers, which give them a source of livelihood.
It was first produced in 2016 to support the coffee grown by farmers in Casile.
Their harvest is sold to the Casile-Guinting Upland Marketing Cooperative, which processes these and turns these into Cafe de Cabuyao.
The crop was affected by Taal’s eruption in 2020, but the farm is bouncing back, Gecolea said.
To show his support for Cafe de Cabuyao, Gecolea said he buys 3,000 packs of it every year from the Casile-Guinting Upland Marketing Cooperative.
He gives out the coffee as tokens during activities and serves it at the Cabuyao City Hall and Retail Plaza.
Those who want to buy the product could get it from the coffee shop at Barangay Casile and from the Cooperative and Livelihood Showroom at the Cabuyao Retail Plaza, he said.
The mayor truly loves his own!
