Silang officials doubt that its schools are ready for face to face classes

Dec 9, 2021 @ 10:42

While some schools have welcomed children back to the classrooms, Silang Mayor Corie Poblete said officials do not think the town is ready for face to face classes.

Poblete visited Silang’s schools and consulted with teachers, parents, and students about the possible reopening of schools, and she got mixed reactions.

The mayor said that she values education, but based on the observations and review of the superintendents, the schools are not yet ready to hold limited face to face classes.

For one, there are not enough classrooms for the new normal, she said.

Schools are also located too far from the homes of the students, she said.

They also expressed concern about the threat posed by the Omicron variant and the possible increase in cases, even though there are no active COVID-19 cases in Silang, she added.

Poblete said she would study the issue further and would make sure that students would be safe when they return to the classrooms.

“Ating pag-aaralan pa ito at asahan nyo po na kami katuwang ang Sangguniang Bayan ng Silang at mga District Superindent ay magtutulong-tulong para maging ligtas ang ating balik-eskwela at magkaroon ng ligtas na pagaaral ang mga estudyanteng Silangueño,” she said on Facebook.
