The Committees on Tourism and on Appropriations have endorsed to the plenary of the House of Representatives the approval of a measure declaring Alaminos town in Laguna as an ecotourism zone.

The approval of the House Bill 8944 would mean that Alaminos would be in the priority list for development of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Within six months from the enactment of the measure, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and other concerned agencies shall prepare a tourism development plan that shall include the construction, installation, and maintenance of appropriate facilities and infrastructure that shall enhance ecotourism in the area.

Alaminos will be included in the DOT’s promotion programs.

The measure was authored by Laguna Rep. Sol Aragones.

“With the proposal, we hope to generate economic growth by providing employment opportunities through tourism activities among the residents of the municipality,” said Aragones. “Other tourism related industries will also spur further economic development in the area by providing local employment opportunities through hotels, resorts, restaurants, transportation services, souvenir shops, among others.”
