The House of Representatives and the Senate have agreed to convert Calaca into a component city of Batangas.
The Senate has sent a communication to the House informing them of the approval of the measure with several amendments. The House approved the measure last year.
The House Committee on Local Governments, the proponent of the measure agreed with the amendments made by the Senate and adopted the same.
A copy of the proposal will be sent to Malacañang for the President’s signature.
Batangas Rep. Elenita Milagros Ermita-Buhain, author of the measure said from a sleepy backwater 4th class municipality in the 80s until early 90s, the growth trajectory of Calaca has been in the upward trend, helped in significant degrees by its strategic location.
“It is gradually emerging as the center of trade and commerce of the first district of Batangas. Driven by an aggressive agricultural and industrial development strategy, the municipality seeks to achieve a growth agenda that addresses urbanization needs, enhancing tourism potentials, and integrating environmental management system and increased agricultural capability and industrial capacity in the context of national and regional development,” said Ermita-Buhain in her bill.
