Kulang P20B! Mark Enverga wants bigger Bayanihan 2 budget for agri, fisheries sectors
Quezon Rep. Mark Enverga has urged the bicameral conference committee deliberating on the COVID-19 stimulus package to increase the allocation for the agriculture and fisheries sector.
In a statement, Enverga said the P20-billion allocation for agri-fisheries under the Bayanihan to Recover as One bill is not enough.
The funding will be used to provide subsidies and loans to qualified agri-fishery enterprises, farmers and fisherfolk.
“Given the tight budget limit, an additional P10 [billion], or not less than a P30-billion stimulus fund, will help boost our agriculture and fisheries sector,” he said.
Enverga noted that among the different sectors in economy, it was the agriculture sector which managed to grow by five percent in the second quarter of 2020 on the back of increases in crops and fisheries production.
“While the measure is a positive step in addressing the effects of the pandemic, I am appealing for more fund allocation for the agriculture and fishery sector, hence this should be boosted and supported aggressively,” he said.
