Aragones to DOH: Improve communication with public on nCov
Laguna Rep. Sol Aragones on Wednesday urged Department of Heath (DOH) officials to intensify their efforts to educate the public regarding the novel coronavirus virus, pointing out that an effective communications campaign was crucial in the efforts to address the crisi.
Speaking at the joint hearing of the House committees on economic affairs and tourism, the lawmaker reminded DOH representatives that information about the virus should be communicated to the public in a manner that could be understood by everyone.
“Yung mga advisories po natin, I suggest gawin po natin talagang malinaw, simple, at naiintindihan ng lahat, mula executive hanggang basurero,” stressed Aragones, who chairs the committee on tourism.
During the hearing, several legislators had to repeatedly request clarifications regarding information shared by DOH representatives, particularly with regard to patients under investigation in their respective districts.
At one point during the discussions, Aragones, who co-chaired the hearing together with economic affairs committee Chair Rep. Sharon Garin, stressed that where medical terminologies are concerned, “mas mainam po na gumamit tayo ng terminolohiya na madaling maintindihan ng lahat para higit na klaro ang impormasyon.”
Aragones’ point was echoed by Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon and Tourism Congress of the Philippines president Jojo Clemente, who said that his group was appealing to government to have a “smoother flow of information” regarding the virus.
