No face mask no problem, says Magallanes Mayor Major Jasmin Maligaya Bautista

Jan 13, 2020 @ 14:50

As panicked people rush to buy face masks following the Taal Volcano eruption, Magallanes Mayor Major Jasmin Maligaya Bautista sought to assure her constituents that they could still protect themselves even if the stocks of face masks run out.

In a Facebook post, Bautista said that if face masks are not available, they could use clean cloths or towels and wet these with water to avoid inhaling volcanic ash.

She said the N95 mask recommended for use would only be crucial if there is severe ash fall or a chemical spill.

But this is not the situation in Magallanes, so there is no need to panic, she said.

She cautioned her constituents not to be taken in by unscrupulous sellers who jack up the prices of face masks, as there is a free and cheaper alternative.

Don’t waste your money by panicking!
