Don’t panic, be patient, Taal Mayor Pong Mercado asks residents

Jan 13, 2020 @ 14:41

Taal residents are understandably worried and raring to evacuate after the eruption of Taal Volcano, and Mayor Pong Mercado assured them that he is doing his best to help them.

In a video taken from an evacuation center early on Monday and shared on his Facebook page, Mercado appealed to his constituents for understanding and patience as he said the local government was doing all it could to bring them to a safer place.

In the video, he urged them to stay in their homes and monitor the news while waiting for rescue.

He has sought help from other local governments and private entities for more vehicles to bring residents safely out of Taal, and they have responded, he said. Rescue vehicles are coming, he added.

His phone has also been ringing non-stop and asked for understanding as he could not answer every one. He also needs the phone to call other officials for help, he explained.

Those who want to assist could also send food to evacuation centers, he said.

The eruption may be a disaster, but it is being handled, he assured them.
