Pampalubag loob! DA allows Quezon farmers to loan P15K
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has sought to ease the suffering of over 11,000 farmers in Quezon affected by the Rice Tariffication Law by allowing them to loan a measly P15,000.
Under the credit assistance program jointly implemented by the Agricultural Credit Policy Council and the LandBank of the Philippines, the P15,000 loan can be paid by the farmer within eight years at zero percent interest.
During his visit to Tayabas, Quezon recently, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said the DA will also be implementing a “Buy 2 Take 2” fertilizer program where farmers will receive 2 bags of urea fertilizer for every 2 bags bought.
“We are putting these things in place because we want to make sure that Filipino farmers increase their production and income, and make them more competitive,” he said.
Dar said it is his goal for the agriculture sector to grow further than the 2.87 percent it registered for the third quarter of the year.
