Helen Tan meets PhilHealth officials as ‘ghost dialysis’ scandal rages
Quezon Rep. Helen Tan met with PhilHealth officials recently to address the issues surrounding the subsidy of healthcare services.
Tan talked with PhilHealth’s staff in actuary and Expansion of Primary Care Benefit (EPCB) in a bid to address fraudulent claims and corrupt activities of healthcare professionals.
As the chair of the House committee on health, Tan expressed doubt whether the mass dismissal of PhilHealth officials will solve the state healthcare insurance agency’s problems.
“[I]ssues on fraudulent claims has been there for decades, but no professionals and facilities has been convicted,” she said.
Tan, however, said she was hopeful that the implementation of the Universal Healthcare (UHC) Law will lead to internal reforms at PhilHealth.
“With UHC I’m hoping that the appointment of the next set of board of directors and President of PHIC will be compliant to the law..we have set a strict reqts.,and I hope no short cuts this time,” she said.
Tan vowed to continue to exercise her oversight power on healthcare-related matters as a lawmaker.
“[I will] do my best to help improve their policy and it’s execution by being the eyes, ears and voice of every Filipino,” she said.
