Danny Suarez wary of Paolo Duterte running for Speaker out of ‘delicadeza’

May 27, 2019 @ 13:19

Outgoing House Minority Leader Danny Suarez has expressed reservations about the prospect of President Rodrigo Duterte’s son, Paolo, running for Speaker in the 18th Congress.

Suarez said people may frown upon the speakership bid of Paolo, who was elected as the congressional representative of Davao City’s first district, out of delicadeza.

“Siguro kung hindi pangulo ang Pangulong Digong, he can be a contender. Pero delicadeza dictates…’Yung presidente tapos ‘yung Speaker, anak mo. Sayang,” he said in an interview over ANC’s Headstart Monday.

“The opportunity, medyo hindi sa advantage niya na ang Pangulo ay tatay niya. Siguro ang mga taong bayan medyo mag-iisip ng konting division ng authority ng ating panunungkulan,” Suarez added.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, has said that only their father can answer questions about Paolo’s supposed speakership bid.

On the same show, Davao Del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez said he will withdraw his speakership bid if Paolo throws his hat into the race.
