‘Di ito gimik! Danny Suarez: I’ve been pushing for higher copra prices since 2013

Apr 9, 2019 @ 19:22

Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez has denied riding on the issue of raising copra prices for his gubernatorial bid.

In an April 6 Facebook post, Suarez said he already pushed for a congressional investigation on palm oil importation back in 2013 since it was dragging copra prices down.

“Matagal ko na pong ipinaglalaban at patuloy pa pong ipaglalaban ang kabuhayan ng ating coconut farmers at ng maraming Pilipino. Laban po natin ito,” he said.

Last March, Suarez filed House Resolution No. 2915 urging the Department of Trade and Industry to stop importing palm oil because it is causing a shift in demand from coconut oil.

At present, the lawmaker said the average copra farm gate price stands at only P15 per kilo, down from P30 to P40 in previous years.
