NFA eyes buying palay from Laguna farmers
The National Food Authority (NFA) has expressed interest in buying palay from farmers in Laguna during the summer cropping season.
Officials from the NFA Laguna, led by Provincial Manager Roman Sanchez, visited nine municipalities recently to have a dialogue with farmers on procuring their palay. These are: Mabitac, Pagsanjan, Calauan, Bay, Sta. Maria, Siniloan, Sta. Cruz, Pila and Victoria.
During their meetings, farmers from each of the municipalities pledged to deliver 10,000 bags of palay to the NFA. As a result, the provincial target is set to exceed its target of 2,000 bags for palay procurement for 2019.
Under Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Import Liberalization Law passed recently, the NFA is mandated to focus on palay procurement from rice farmers for buffer stocking.
NFA’s buffer stocks shall be maintained to address the needs for relief during calamities and emergencies across the country.
