Sandiganbayan to proceed with ex-mayor Germar’ graft trial
The Sandiganbayan 6th Division has refused to suspend the proceedings of the graft case against dismissed Norzagaray, Bulacan mayor Alfredo Germar over his alleged involvement in the anomalous appointment of consultants.
“This Court, in the exercise of discretion, has determined that suspending the proceedings in the present cases will not promote the objective of the Rules of ‘securing a just, speedy and inexpensive disposition of every action and proceeding,’” ruled the anti-graft court.
Under the case, Germar is accused of appointing in 2013 six consultants without approval from the Sangguniang Bayan.
Germar sought the suspension of the court proceedings since he has pending motion for reconsideration which sought the reverse the court’s ruling which denied his motion to dismiss the case.
He reminded that the Supreme Court (SC) has already issued a decision which cleared him of administrative liability on the matter.
Germar said the SC pointed out he was not required to secure a separate authorization from the Sangguniang Bayan in hiring the consultants who were paid a over P110,000.
