Erin Tañada questions PH-China partnership after Chinese Coast Guard turns away Filipino journalists in West PH Sea
Senatorial candidate Erin Tañada questioned the supposed “partnership” between the Philippines and China after the Chinese Coast Guard prohibited Filipino journalists from filming in the West Philippine Sea.
The Quezon politiko slammed China after its Coast Guard said Filipino journalists need permission from the Asian giant before it could film in the West Philippine Sea.
“Kailangan na daw nating humingi ng permiso sa China para malaman ang totoong nagaganap sa sarili nating teritoryo sa West Philippine Sea,” Tañada said.
“Pinaalis ng Chinese coastguard ang mga Pilipinong reporter sa tinawag nilang ‘sea area of the People’s Republic of China,'” he added.
Tañada said that while cooperation between the two countries is important, he pointed out that the Philippines-China partnership seems to be one-sided.
“Makabubuti sa bansa ang cooperation with other countries. Pero isa bang tunay na ‘partnership’ ang nagaganap sa Pilipinas at China? Payag ba kayo rito?” he said.
