Carried away by the hype! Jonvic Remulla costs UP 1 point in UAAP basketball finals match vs. Ateneo
Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla’s momentary amnesia about basketball rules cost the University of the Philippines one point in their highly charged first match against the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
Remulla, the UP Fighting Maroons’ team manager, was called for a technical foul for violating the UAAP’s so-called “cooling off period.”
Under UAAP rules, team officials may not approach referees for a particular period during the game.
As a consequence of Remulla’s action, the Blue Eagles was allowed to shoot one free throw, which went inside the basket.
Remulla can only heave a sigh of relief that UP lost to ADMU by nine points, 88-79, so he’s not exactly the person to blame for the Fighting Maroons’ uphill climb for the championship title.
