Cavite Gov. Boying Remulla apologizes for racist, misogynistic statements of his Lonsi brods
Cavite Gov. Boying Remulla is a long-time member of Upsilon Sigma Phi, but he is appalled by the group chat statements of the frat’s members that came to light recently.
The group chat, which leaked online, featured what was said to be Upsilon members using racial slurs and using language that showed misogyny, hatred, religious intolerance and “other despicable, unacceptable and politically incorrect messages,” Remulla noted.
In a Facebook post, Remulla apologized to those who were hurt by the remarks of his brods and assured people that this incident would be addressed.
The Upsilon leadership will investigate this “very disturbing matter,” he said.
He also said he would not shirk from his duty to guide Upsilon, and assured the people that the fraternity does not promote hatred and ridicule of any gender, race, religion or creed.
Stay tuned for the next development!
“Recently, a group chat, allegedly from members of the Upsilon Sigma Phi, that contained racial slurs, misogynist statements, hatred and intolerance of religious groups and other despicable, unacceptable and politically incorrect messages leaked online.
I joined the Upsilon Sigma Phi in 1979 and I have been an Upsilonian for almost 40 years.
It is a time of crisis, ironically at this juncture of our centennial year.
I vow to never shirk from my duty to guide the Upsilon Sigma Phi during these trying times.
I wish to reiterate that the promotion of hatred and ridicule of any gender, race, religion or creed is not in the DNA of the Upsilon Sigma Phi.
Regrettably, the Fraternity is not perfect by any standard, but it has remained the best and the strongest because of the sense of idealism that it has fostered among its members in their young and formative years.
I am currently the Governor of the Province of Cavite, the most populated province in the Republic of the Philippines. I have been serving our country to the best of my abilities for almost three decades.
I can proudly say that the Upsilon Sigma Phi helped mold my character, personality, idealism, and deep sense of nationalism.
To those who were hurt by the provocative and inflammatory remarks on the social media pages of our fraternity, I am offering to all of you my most profound and humble APOLOGY.
The outrage this has caused has not fallen on deaf ears. The Fraternity leadership, both resident and alumni, has been conducting investigations into this very disturbing matter. We have even asked forensic experts to look into the digital origins of the messages.
We are also conducting investigations from within our ranks, so that no guilty Upsilonian will go unpunished for any of the abhorrent and provocative messages.
Again, my sincerest apologies to those who were hurt by the improper and despicable leaked messages.
I will remain an Upsilonian to the end of my days,” Remulla posted.
