Ralph Recto: Duties from rice tariffication must go back to farmers
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto on November 14 said that the proposed rice tariffication bill mandates that all duties collected from imported rice must go back to farmers.
The Batangas politiko said that some people in government “were toying with the idea of using rice tariffication to shore up the government’s fiscal position.”
But Recto said the government should not profit from rice tariffication.
He said duties from rice tariffication must be given back to farmers in “a raft of assistance in the form of equipment, insurance, credit, and even direct financial aid.”
Recto said the Senate is eyeing the passage of the Rice Tarrification bill before the end of the year.
