NPC cancels nomination of Mayor Sabili as Batangas representative
The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) withdrew its nomination of Lipa City Mayor Meynard Sabili in his bid to challenge 6th District Representative Vilma Santos-Recto for the House seat.
The NPC’s cancellation of the nomination came two hours before deadline of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) last October 17.
Sabili blamed the Star for All Seasons’ husband, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, for NPC’s cancellation of his nomination.
“Tinawagan ako ng secretary general ng NPC, na ang sabi niya ay tumawag o nakiusap si Senator Ralph Recto na tanggalin ako sa NPC,” he said.
“Ang ‘pinagtataka ko, bakit gustong-gustong mawalan ako ng partido. Kasi whatever happens to a candidate – kunwari the candidate wants to withdraw – ang advantage ng may party, you can file for a substitution. Pero ‘pag independent ka, walang substitution. So kung dalawa lang kayong magkalaban, at may mangyari sa ‘yo, for whatever reason, wala ka na p’wedeng i-substitute sa ‘yo. Kaya ako’y nagtataka, bakit naman gano’n?” Sabili said.
