Danilo Suarez: More power plants needed to address power shortage

Sep 29, 2018 @ 16:33

Quezon 3rd District Representative Danilo Suarez said the Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build infrastructure program can address the country’s power supply shortage.

The Quezon politiko said the Department of Energy (DOE) has noted the increase in demand of areas outside the service of Meralco.

This is aggravated by the country’s lack of power reserves.

“At present, to our understanding, we fall below or possess no power reserves as observed by global industry standards,” Suarez said.

“Given the low operating margin and reserves, it is not impossible that we shall soon face darker nights as power shortage is expected to hit the country,” he added.

But Suarez said the country needs new power plants to address these problem.

“With the Build Build Build program of this administration, we can address this power supply problem by allowing construction of new power plants that are compliant with standards provided for by our laws,” he said.
