Batangas mayor Amo gets jail for removing barangay exec

Sep 28, 2018 @ 16:34

Laurel, Batangas Mayor Randy James Amo has been slapped with imprisonment of up to 10 years for having removed the president of an association of barangay captains.

The Sandiganbayan 1st Division has issued a decision which found Amo guilty of graft concerning the 2012 removal of Barangay Bugaan West chairman Eusebio Bilog as president of Laurel’s Association of Barangay Captains (ABC).

Aside from Amo, the anti-graft court also found guilty his co-accused Barangay Poblacion Chairman Severenino Endaya Jr. who replaced Bilog in 2012.

Apart from being sent to jail, the court also perpetually disqualified the two from holding public office.

The anti-graft court pointed out that the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Calabarzon office had recognized Bilog as the legitimate president and there was no need for an election because there was no vacancy.

“Meddling with the affairs of the Liga to suit his political agenda, supporting the manifesto to hold an election…and… unjustly depriving Bilog of his salary and other benefits… despite demands to release the same, constitute evident bad faith and gross inexcusable negligence,” read the decision.
