Ralph Recto: Ill-preparedness for typhoons will worsen inflation
Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto said being ill-prepared for upcoming typhoons will worsen the current problems of inflation and high prices of goods.
The Batangas politiko said the government should call a command conference to address upcoming storms.
Recto said the Philippines is fortunate there has been no strong typhoons coming into the country recently.
“We are already reeling from the man-made calamity that is inflation and high prices of goods. A natural calamity like a typhoon has the potential of exacerbating our problems exponentially,” he said.
“Typhoons can flood growing areas, damage planted crops, and render farm-to-market roads impassable—any of which can disrupt the supply chain and trigger temporary scarcity that will surely cause prices to rise,” Recto added.
