Ralph Recto: Not enough to rehab NAIA
Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto said it is not enough to rehabilitate the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) so it can accommodate more flights and passengers.
The Batangas politiko said there is a need to build a new airport to account for the increase in passengers in the future.
“Two presidential terms lang yan, baka ma-hit na yang maximum 65 million, at the rate air travel is growing. Kailangan talaga ng isa pa,” Recto said.
He said the government must decide on the different proposals for NAIA’s decongestion soon.
“I understand that this is not a winner-take-all proposal, but two airports can coexist under the principle of complementarity. Ang dapat pag-usapan natin ang takeoff time ng mga yan, or to use a flight terminology, kelan ba ang ETA – Estimated Time of Arrival, meaning completion, of Bulacan, Clark and Naia,” Recto said.
