Mayor Barzaga gives cash incentives to Dasmariñas’ new International Chess Masters
Dasmariñas City Mayor Pidi Barzaga on August 13 led the awarding of cash incentives to the Philippines’ new international chess masters.
Dasmariñas chess players Daniel Quizon and Kylen Joy Mordido recently won as champions in the Eastern Asia Juniors Open Championships last August 1 to 10 in Gangneung, South Korea.
Quizon earned the Interantional Master title and a first Grandmaster Norm while Mordido earned the Woman International Master title and a first Grandmaster Norm.
This makes Mordido the youngest Filipina to receive the Woman International Master title at 16 years and 3 months old.
Quizon, meanwhile, was the second youngest Filipino to receive the International Master title at 13 years and 9 months old.
The two also brought home medals from the World Youth Mind Sports Fair held in Gangneum, South Korea last August 4.
Quizon won a gold medal while Mordido won a bronze medal.
The Dasmariñas city government gave the two a plaqua and P100,000 each as reward.
Barzaga and his wife, Representative Jenny Barzaga also gave the two chess players P50,000 each.
Meanwhile, chess coach Roel Abelgas was given a plaque and P50,000 by the city government.
The Barzagas also rewarded him with P25,000.
