House approves National Mariculture Program
Batangas 6th District Representative Vilma Santos-Recto’s House Bill No. 7506, which seeks to establish a National Mariculture Program (NMP), has been approved by the House of Representatives on third and final reading.
The Batangas politiko’s proposed measure aims to strengthen the fisheries and aquaculture sector of the Philippines.
It also aims to ensure food security in the country.
Under the bill, provincial, city, and municipal governments are mandated to lease mariculture parks to fisherfolk cooperatives and private investors for 10 years.
Fisherfolk will also be given loan assistance by the Land Bank of the Philippines for fisherfolk organziations for livelihood expenses.
