May 29, 2018 @ 16:07

Former Rizal, Laguna mayor Rolen Urriguia has been slapped with a P3,000 fine over unauthorized withdrawals from the municipality’s bank.

The Sandiganbayan slapped the fine after finding him guilty of failure to render account and for violating the Government Auditing Code of the Philippines.

Apart from Urriguia, his co-accused, municipal treasurer Eva Mendoza, was also ordered to pay the fine.

Under the case, Urriquia and Mendoza caused the unauthorized withdrawals from the municipality’s authorized depository bank totalling P317,415.35 without any supporting documents from March 18 to 31 2010.

The defendants previously entered “not guilty” pleas but eventually withdrew and enter “guilty pleas” instead as part of the plea bargaining deal to lesser penalties.
