Naghihingalo na! Quezon Board Member Dominic Reyes laments dying days of democracy

For Quezon Board Member Dominic Reyes, Maria Lourdes Sereno’s ouster as Chief Justice did not just signal the end of her career in court, it also chipped away at democracy in the country.

Reyes made no secret of where he stands on the quo warranto petition to unseat Sereno, filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida.

Many legal experts have warned against the petition, pointing out that the constitution clearly states a justice may only be removed through impeachment.

But Sereno’s colleagues, some of whom hold personal grudges against her, went ahead and granted it anyway.

And for Reyes, the sad message is clear: democracy is in trouble.

“Unti unti nang nasisira ang demokrasya ng bansa..,” he posted on Facebook as he shared a link to news of Sereno’s ouster.
