Laging handa: Landslide prompts Palawan diocese to preach disaster awareness

Jun 11, 2017 @ 12:05

A recent landslide prompted the social action center of the Palawan Apostolic Vicariate to remind residents to maintain disaster awareness.

Fr. Jasper Lahan, head of the social action center, said this includes staying clear of landslide- and flood-prone areas on the part of residents.

But Lahan also said the local government should give prompt warnings.

“Isang pagpapaalala sa atin ang pagsunod ay napakahalaga para tayo ay magkaroon ng mapayapang pamumuhay kaya ang mga suggestions at ninanais ibigay sa atin ng pamahalaan bilang pagpapaalala yan ay makakatulong at dapat nating sundin,” he said on Church-run Radyo Veritas.

A recent landslide caused by heavy rain killed a mother and her two children in Barangay Liwanag in Puerto Princesa City.

Lahan said lives lost due to calamities cannot be brought back.

“Hindi po natin hawak ang panahon ngayon lalong lalo na alam natin na ang mga ulan ay dadating sa hindi natin inaasahan. Kinakailangan maging handa tayo palagi at part ng ating paghahanda ay ilagay ang ating sarili sa dapat nating kinalalagyan,” he said.
