Umali: Lowering age of criminal responsibility in back burner

Oriental Mindoro 2nd District Representative Reynaldo Umali said Congress is setting aside measures on lowering the minimum age of criminal responsibility for now.
This, after Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas said the House of Representatives (HOR) would prioritize dealing with the impeachment complaints against President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo.
The House committee on justice, which is chaired by Umali, has been tasked to tackle the impeachment raps.
An impeachment complaint was filed against Duterte last March 16, while a similar complaint is said to be imminent against Robredo.
The Mindoro politiko had this to say about the status of the bill seeking to lower the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 15 to either nine or 12 years old.
“It remains to be a priority but whether or not we will be able to pass it before we end the first regular session is another matter,” he said.
