Sato to take spotlight in biodiversity meeting

Occidental Mindoro Representative Josephine Ramirez Sato will discuss the Philippines’ biodiversity and conservation efforts during the 3rd Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) Regional Workshop in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Tuesday, April 25.
The three-day event is part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to advance its work under the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Global Framework.
BIOFIN is a new global partnership that seeks increased investment in the management of ecosystems and biodiversity.
The workshop hopes to provide a venue for discussion on the application of the 2016 BIOFIN workbook in countries, support the development of inventories of subsidies harmful to biodiversity, and share experience of BIOFIN progress.
Sato, a member of the House Committee on Ecology, will highlight the country’s initiatives to protect its rich biodiversity against various threats in her keynote address.
The Philippines is one of the 17 mega-diverse countries in the world, with more than 52,000 known species.
