Bacoor Mayor and actress Lani Mercado-Revilla spearheaded the city’s “Clean-Up Drive Against Zika Virus,” on Monday, November 7.

The lady politiko was aided in this health initiative by 23 barangay heads and volunteers, and city government employees

Armed with brooms, dustpans, tree and leaf cutters, spades, garbage bags and cleaning materials, Mercado and the group started cleaning possible mosquito breeding areas in Bacoor City.

Health officials said that Zika virus is transmitted to humans by the day-biting Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, the same carriers of dengue and chikungunya viruses.

Revilla said that the city government is coordinating with officials of the Department of Education on how to disseminate information about Zika virus and will participate in their clean- up drive.

It can be recalled that there were three victims of the Zika virus in the city — a 33 year old female and two boys aged 10 and 12 who were under laboratory testing for the virus at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa City.
