A fisher group, based in Bataan, is seeking the assistance of President Rodrigo Duterte in convincing Chinese authorities to allow them to fish off Scarborough Shoal which lies 125 nautical miles off Zambales.

“It would be a big thing if China allows us to enter the Scarborough. It would be a big help to us. There are many fish there,” said Flordeliza Salota, president of Sisiman Fishing Operators Association president Flordeliza Salota said.

The Chief Executive is currently on a state visit to China.

Sisiman is one of fishing villages in Mariveles, Bataan. The association counts to more than 400 members manning 32 fishing boats.

Salota said their members were forced to fish at the Commodore Reef, Palawan after the sea row between the Philippines and China over the Scarborough Shoal erupted.

“We do believe, our President, that the Filipino fishermen are important to you. It is important for us to enter the Scarborough,” she added.
