Isang oras na lang! TPLEX now extends to Binalonan, Pangasinan
Travelers between Tarlac City and Binalonan in Pangasinan can reach their destination in less than an hour with the completion of the 67.9-km Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).
In a post on its website, the Department of Public Works and Highways said the stretch of road should accommodate some 20,000 vehicles per day.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar noted the Urdaneta City-Binalonan segment had its soft opening recently.
According to the DPWH, the 4.92-km Urdaneta-Binalonan segment reduced travel time from Tarlac City to Urdaneta from two-and-a-half hours to about 40 minutes.
“The opening of this segment would cut travel time from Tarlac to Urdaneta by over 70 percent and would ensure easy access to many tourist destinations in Pangasinan,” he said.
“By improving our road network, we hope to strengthen agricultural and rural enterprise productivity as well as urban and rural tourism,” he added.
Meanwhile, work on the 7.53-km Binalonan-Pozzurubio segment is 61 percent complete and may be completed by December 2016.
“We want the next segment completed in time for the Christmas season as this road would further reduce travel time to Baguio City and other areas of Northern Luzon and Cordillera,” said Villar.
By 2018, Villar said they expect the whole 88.85-km TPLEX will be fully operational.
