Isabela govt steps up disaster preparedness, buys text blast machine worth P10M

Aug 15, 2016 @ 8:18

The provincial government of Isabela has reinforced its disaster preparedness with the acquisition of a “text blast” machine amounting to P10 million.

Provincial administrator Noel Manuel Lopez said the “text blast” machine would be used to send advisories and warnings in the event of natural disasters.

The machine is capable of sending bulk text messages to mobile phones even when there’s no cell service, Lopez said in a Philippine News Agency (PNA) report Saturday.

“If the cell sites are down, cell phone owners will still be receiving advisories from the text blast machine,” he was quoted as saying.

It is expected to boost the provincial government’s communication system especially during calamities, the official added.
