Amor for Aetas: Incoming Zambales governor makes resettlement of native tribes a priority

Jun 18, 2016 @ 20:34

Incoming Zambales Governor Amor Deloso plans to resettle around 16,000 Aetas displaced by the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo once he officially assumes office come July 1.

A Manila Bulletin report published Friday (June 17) said Deloso is going to make the relocation these homeless indigenous tribes his first order of business to help them survive on their own.

“We will resettle them upang magkaroon sila ng kanya-kanyang lugar equipped with a learning center, hospital, market para may segregated area sila where they can survive with their own culture at hindi na pagala-gala at umaabot pa sa Manila para mamalimos. Nakaplano na ito,” Deloso was quoted saying.

The 2011 ‘Natatanging Ulirang Ama’ awardee said he plans to achieve this by segregating 1,000 of the 32,000-hectare arable land in the eastern part of Botolan, Zambales for the Aetas. He also assured them of decent livelihood. Props to that!
