Baguio mayor asks neighboring towns to look for new tourist sites

With his vision of “Metro Baguio”, Baguio City mayor Mauricio Domogan is encouraging his fellow mayors in the adjacent towns of La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan,Tuba and Tublay to explore for new tourist destinations in their areas that could be developed and promoted.

Domogan said the discovery of new tourist sites in the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) will help increase tourist arrivals and generate employment and income for local residents.

Domogan is the chairman of the BLISTT governing council. “We want to aggressively promote the BLISTT as a whole package for investors and tourists that is why we want local officials of our neighboring towns to be able to update their respective tourist destinations to be included in a brochure promoting all potential destinations in the said areas,” the mayor said in Baguio Herald Express report.

Domogan pointed out that the promotion of other tourist destinations within the BLISTT will definitely spur economic activities in the towns and decongest the already crowded Baguio City.

Baguio, he said, will be the jump-off point of tourists going to the newly discovered tourist sites.
He emphasized that because of the unique weather condition, scenic spots and the quality of the environment of the BLISTT, it remains a “premier destination” for people wanting to escape the extreme heat of the lowlands and spend a well-deserved break.
