Former Bayambang, Pangasinan mayor Leocadio De Vera, Jr. remained in critical condition after being shot by an unidentified gunman in front of his house.
De Vera, 62, was rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City, but later transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of an undisclosed private hospital, various news reports stated.
The attack took place at around 5 am of September 17 while De Vera was talking with a security guard in front of his house in Poblacion Sur village, Bayambang.
An inquirer report described the gunman as wearing a black jacket with a hood.
The suspect shot the mayor four times, who, despite being wounded, managed to fire back. Relatives said he had been receiving death threats.
De Vera made an unsuccessful comeback bid in the 2010 elections against incumbent mayor Ricardo Camacho.
