Cagayan politiko fed up with requests for his help, tells constituents to go to Philhealth first

Aug 14, 2015 @ 3:31

Cagayan 3rd District Rep. Randolph Ting seemed to have grown tired of giving financial assistance to his needy constituents.

In an interview in Radyo ng Bayan, the lawmaker urged families of hospital patients

to seek first the assistance of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) “before seeking others.”

He bared that many people come to his office everyday begging for financial aid.

“Majority of the family members claimed they haven’t sought such assistance (from PhilHealth) because they are not even aware of it,” Ting pointed out.

He said that the government’s health insurance programs are in place to cater to almost all types of medical emergencies and ensure support to the people, including the marginalized.

“While we have such programs like PhilHealth, awareness of such program is a problem, “Ting stressed.

The Cagayan lawmaker said PhilHealth should put up notices in hospitals bearing the package rates of health insurances and other important information for public awareness.

It is only when PhilHealth assistance is not enough that the public may go the offices of their congressmen to ask for financial aid, Ting said.
