Salceda drops election plans to support Roxas’ candidacy

Outgoing Albay Gov. Joey Salceda announced that he will no longer run for any elective post in the 2016 elections.

Instead, the governor said he will dedicate his time to support the candidacy of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas.

“I will no longer run for any position.  Instead, I will help Secretary Mar run his campaign for president,” the provincial governor told reporters in Albay.

Salceda led political leaders in Albay in declaring their support for Roxas during the “Ituloy ang Daang Matuwid” event on August 4, according to a Manila Bulletin article.

The last-termer governor also announced that he has also abandoned his plan to run for representative of the second district of Albay.

Salceda is the regional chairman of LP in Bicol.

He is on his last term as Albay governor, having been elected in 2007.

He was a three-term representative of the 3rd District of Albay before being appointed as presidential chief of staff by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on February 10, 2007, a post he briefly held for only a month.
