Nueva Vizcaya mayor sacks nine shabu-sniffing employees
Dupax del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya Mayor Antonio Palugod has dismissed nine municipal employees who tested positive for illegal drug use.
Palugod said the erring employees were holding five permanent positions, two casuals and two contractuals.
“These employees are now facing dismissal from the service for violation of Civil Service Commission rules and regulations,” the mayor of the fourth-class municipality was quoted as saying by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
The nine employees underwent a surprise drug test conducted among the 167 employees of the town hall.
Vice Mayor Victoriano Prado, on the other hand, said the drug test only proved reports that several municipal employees are using illegal drugs even during office hours.
“This will serve as a precedent and warning to all of our employees and officials that should they be found positive in using illegal drugs, they shall be charged accordingly under CSC laws. We should always be a role model among our youth, especially when we are holding a public office,” he said.
